Jaan Pehchaan Ho

These are probably batchmates of Dad's older sister, from her college days in Pondicherry (JIPMER), in the 1960s.

1960's youth
Classic college scene. It's either a fete or annual day celebration party or more likely a skit for an annual day. Or just a bunch of youngsters having a good time. Hopefully.

I think the picture is very evocative of it's era. It's got a very 'Aao Twist Karein' vibe to it. Interestingly both the Hindi movies 'Bhut Bungla' with that song and 'Gumnam' with the song 'Jaan Pehchan Ho' were released in 1965. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those is actually playing in the background when this picture was taken.

Colleges of national importance like JIPMER would have been / are cosmopolitan melting pots with young students from all over India. Like all young students everywhere in India, at all times, these students would also have been tuned into the best of Bollywood music and fashion. Thus the dude with his wayfarers and goatee and his partner twirling away in her dress.

Life is bliss.
